Yes!!! This is a big debut for Halo 3 and it is using Silverlight technology in all its beauty. 7 trailers hit the web publicly on Monday, August 27th, and they rock! You can view them in high resolution at http://halo3.msn.com/videoshd.aspx (or by clicking on the image above) and in lower resolution at http://halo3.msn.com/videos.aspx.
The high res video trailers are encoded at 2 Mbps no less, so it is a bandwidth hog and it will be pushed full force to your last mile connection. The lower res video trailers are encoded at 400 Kbps and also provide stunning quality. Turn the lights out, crank the volume up, and enjoy the ride! There is some original never-seen-before work and there is one Silverlight-exclusive trailer.
Make sure you see both the new "Combat Part 1" and the existing "Halo 3 Short Film" as live action examples of Halo3 (video trailer selection available via the "Videos" button at the bottom of the player window).
This is a great example of what the Silverlight Streaming service, which was launched as an Alpha version on April 30th at MIX'07, can do combined with a locally hosted customized player developed to leverage Silverlight. The videos are stored in Silverlight Streaming, and delivered by the service through a Content Delivery Network providing geo-scale distribution worldwide. You can read more about the Limelight CDN in the recent press release posted on http://www.streamingmedia.com/press/view.asp?id=7372.
